Returning to Debian

Last february, after a lot of thinking, I decided to retire from the debian project. It was a bit painful, but I concluded that I could focus and spend more time on my other interests like amateur radio. Also work was grabbing all my time. But things changed in the last few weeks. I think I can make some contributions, not in packaging software, but in other activities like helping the NM desk or help keep the electronics packages of debian uptodate etc. I personally feel that the days of one human pulling together projects is the thing of the past. What is needed is effective small teams and I think I can help in this regard.

I thought going back to Debian within the span of six months is very simple. I was completely wrong. I wrote to everyone from DPL to former DPL to Account Managers and no response came. Bdale Garbee, a former DPL and a friend of mine, asked me to file a ticket at the rt.debian.org, which I did promptly. I got a ticket number in return. But my ticket does not appear in the rt system. Again, emails are not answered. It seem to me that no one is accountable for anything in Debian.

I thought I will stop right there and move forward. But after some rethinking, I decided to go ahead and get into the NM queue. I will publish my progress here for others. Others can also track them here. Perhaps a little more documentation in the Debian webpages on how to get back from the Emeritus status will go a long way to correct the problems. I think that will be my first task after getting in.
